What was the last Surah revealed to the Prophet (peace be upon him)?

Scholars have differed on determining the last verse revealed in the Holy Quran, with several prominent opinions. The most prominent one is that the last verse revealed is the saying of Allah in Surat Al-Baqarah: {And be fearful of a Day when you will be returned to Allah. Then every soul will be compensated for what it earned, and they will not be wronged}. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, lived for nine nights after its revelation, then he passed away.

There are other opinions, including that the last revealed verse was the verse of usury or the verse of debt in Surat Al-Baqarah, or the verse {So their Lord responded to them, 'Indeed, I will not allow to be lost the work of [any] worker among you, whether male or female'} in Al Imran, or the verse about intentionally killing a believer in Surat An-Nisa, or the verse of Al-Kalalah (inheritance without direct heirs) in An-Nisa, or Surat Al-Ma'idah, or the conclusion of Surat Bara'ah (At-Tawbah), or the conclusion of Surat Al-Kahf, or Surat An-Nasr.

Some scholars believe that these opinions are not attributed to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and that each opinion is an ijtihad (independent reasoning) by the Companions based on the last thing they heard. They also believe that the other opinions refer to relative endings or are restricted to certain rulings or surahs. Some tend to favor the verse {And be fearful of a Day when you will be returned to Allah...} as the most probable, as it carries an indication of the conclusion of revelation and the religion.
