Do games played by children, such as Rock-Paper-Scissors, Hangman, and Naughty, which are partially based on chance, fall under the same rulings as chess?

Some jurists have prohibited games based on luck and conjecture by analogy with dice, which are forbidden by prophetic texts, such as the hadith (definition): "Whoever plays with nardashir is as if he dipped his hand in the flesh and blood of a pig," and "Whoever plays with dice has disobeyed Allah and His Messenger."

Scholars believe that nardashir is nard (dice), and the meaning of the hadith is to liken the prohibition of playing with it to the prohibition of eating pig's flesh and blood.

By analogy with dice, all forms of amusement that depend on estimation and conjecture are prohibited, such as playing cards (Kanjifa). The Permanent Committee and Ibn Uthaymeen have issued fatwas prohibiting playing cards even if no money is involved.

Similarly, with chess, the majority of scholars consider playing it forbidden, citing the statement of Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) to those playing it: "What are these idols to which you are devoted?"

Therefore, games that rely absolutely on luck should be avoided, as there are intelligence and movement games that suffice.
