What is the ruling on relying on Islamic websites of unknown origin on the Internet?

It is not permissible to rely on Islamic websites on the internet for matters of Sharia unless they adhere to the methodology of Ahl al-Sunnah wal-Jama'ah. This is because whoever relies on them without verifying their adherence to the correct methodology is not safe from falling into error. The Salaf (pious predecessors) used to criticize taking knowledge from books without scholars and شیخs, saying: "Whoever takes his shaykh (teacher) from his book, his errors will be more than his correct answers," and "Do not take the Qur'an from a mushafi (one who reads only from the Mushaf) nor take knowledge from a sahafi (one who learns only from newspapers/writings)."
