Is it permissible for me to follow the opinion of those who consider yellowish and brownish discharges (ṣufrah and kudrah) not to be menstruation at all, despite my unease with this opinion and my belief to the contrary? And should I consider them as such even if they appear at the beginning of the cycle and are accompanied by pain?

The layman imitates whomever he trusts among the people of knowledge, even if they differ. He imitates the one he trusts most. If the questioner is afflicted with waswasa (whispers/obsessive thoughts) and this opinion removes her waswasa, then there is no harm for her in adopting it until she recovers.
