Is it permissible to fast two consecutive months as atonement for intercourse during the daytime in Ramadan, while breaking the fast on Fridays to avoid doubts? If not permissible, is it possible to pay the atonement by feeding sixty poor people in cash and appointing someone to distribute it?
Whoever has intercourse with his spouse during the daytime in and is unable to free a slave, must fast for two consecutive months. If he is unable to fast, he must feed sixty poor people. It is not permissible to move to fasting unless one is unable to free a slave, nor to feeding unless one is unable to fast. So, the expiation here is in sequence. Whoever is obligated to fast for two consecutive months must not interrupt his fasting except for a legitimate Shar'i excuse such as illness or menstruation. If he interrupts it without a legitimate Shar'i excuse, he must resume fasting anew. Visiting parents is not an excuse to interrupt the fasting or the continuity, as this is an obligatory fast.
