The answer

Zakat is not due on hidden wealth such as jewelry, cash, and trade goods. If you purchase land for trade and a hawl (a lunar year) passes on its value, then use your surplus money, beyond your needs, to cover loan installments and employee cooperative contributions. Then, pay zakat on the entire value of the land. Otherwise, deduct the installments from the land's value. If a nisab (minimum threshold) remains after that, then pay zakat on it. The nisab for banknotes is the equivalent of 85 grams of gold or 595 grams of silver, and one-quarter of one-tenth (2.5%) must be given.
