Ibn Kathir mentioned in his Tafsir (exegesis) many names for Mecca, among them: Makkah, Bakkah, Al-Bayt Al-Ateeq (The Ancient House), Al-Bayt Al-Haram (The Sacred House), Al-Balad Al-Ameen (The Secure City), Al-Ma'moon (The Protected), Umm Rahm, Umm Al-Qura (Mother of all Settlements), Salah, Al-Arsh (The Throne), Al-Qadis, Al-Muqaddasah (The Holy), An-Naasah, Al-Hatimah (The Crusher), An-Nassasah, Ar-Ra's (The Head), Kawtha, Al-Baldah (The City), Al-Binyah (The Structure), and Al-Ka'bah.
