What is the ruling on burning fetuses preserved in a preservative that prevents their decomposition, or burying them very deep for fear of stray dogs? And is it obligatory to pray over them or wash them upon burial?

A fetus that is stillborn after four months in its mother's womb should be washed, shrouded, prayed over, and buried. This is because the sanctity of a person in death is like their sanctity in life. This is indicated by the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "Breaking the bone of a deceased person is like breaking it while he is alive." It is also supported by Ibn Abbas's narration regarding Maymunah's funeral: "When you lift her bier, do not shake it or disturb it, but be gentle." The fetus should be buried in a deep grave, based on the Prophet's (peace be upon him) words on the Day of Uhud: "Dig deeply, and do it well." After that, the decomposition of the body does not matter. If the funeral prayer has not been performed for the fetus, it should be prayed over before burial, as the funeral prayer is a communal obligation (fard kifayah).
