There is no specific threat of punishment for a married person who masturbates, but a Muslim must avoid anything that displeases Allah. Seeking forgiveness (istighfar) erases sins, and it is a request for Allah's forgiveness. Good deeds expiate bad deeds. The obligation to rid oneself of the effect of sin is sincere repentance ( Nasuh): by immediately abandoning the sin, regretting having committed it, and resolving never to return to it. Fasting, associating with righteous people, and increasing supplications are also recommended.
