Whoever is obligated to offer the expiation for an oath, if they are able to feed, clothe, or free a slave, then they must do one of these. However, if they are unable, then they must fast for three days, and they are not required to wait until they are able to perform the other three options. The expiation is obligatory with delay unless it is due to a sin, in which case it becomes immediately obligatory.

The amount of feeding is half a saa' (approximately 1.5 kg) for each needy person, or a lunch and dinner meal. As for clothing, it is estimated by what suffices for prayer. It is permissible to pay the feeding in installments by feeding one needy person each day until the number is complete.
