The science of language is important for the student of knowledge to understand the Quran and the Sunnah. It is recommended to start with Al-Ajurrumiyyah, then Qatr al-Nada, then Alfiyyat Ibn Malik with Sharh Ibn Aqil. One can also begin with contemporary books to facilitate the understanding of earlier works.
