What is said upon entering the rites for the Mutamatti' (pilgrim performing Tamattu' Hajj), and which is better, shaving or shortening the hair after the 'Umrah Sa'y (ritual circumambulation between Safa and Marwah)? From where should one enter into Ihram for Hajj, and is shaving obligatory on the Day of Sacrifice after stoning Jamrat al-'Aqabah?

Firstly: Hajj at-Tamattu' involves entering into ihram for Umrah alone during the months of Hajj, then desacralizing from it, and then entering into ihram for Hajj from one's place of residence on the Day of Tarwiyah (the eighth of Dhul-Hijjah) with the intention of Hajj and reciting the Talbiyah.

Secondly: Whoever performs Umrah on the seventh day should shorten their hair after Umrah and not shave it completely, so that there remains some hair to be shaved during Hajj.

Thirdly: The ordered rituals for the Mutamatti' on the Day of Sacrifice are: stoning Jamrat al-Aqabah, then slaughtering the sacrificial animal, then shaving or shortening the hair, and then performing Tawaf al-Ifadah and Sa'i. This is the preferred order. It is permissible to advance or delay some of these rituals, just as it is permissible to delay shaving until the last of the Days of Tashreeq.
