What is meant by "Safar" in the Hadith: "There is no contagion, no evil omen, and no Safar"? And what are the innovations (bid'ah) related to the month of Safar?

The hadith "No Safar" has been interpreted differently. It has been said that Safar is a disease in the abdomen, or a snake, or that it refers to the month of Safar, and the Hadith negates the ill omens associated with it. Another interpretation is that it negates An-Nasi’ (the postponement of a sacred month), which they used to practice by making Al-Muharram permissible and prohibiting Safar in its place. The negation includes all these false meanings.

As for the saying "Safar Al-Khair" (Safar of goodness), it is a case of treating innovation with innovation, for the month of Safar is neither a month of goodness nor a month of evil.

Regarding the supererogatory prayer performed on the last Wednesday of Safar, it is a reprehensible innovation with no basis in the Qur'an or Sunnah. The same applies to gathering between the two Isha prayers on the last Wednesday of Safar, writing verses of peace and drinking their water; all of that is among the reprehensible innovations and the forbidden ill omens.
