Is it permissible to shred unread religious books?

If the beneficial books can be gifted to schools, mosques, or students of knowledge, or if a place can be provided to store them, then they must be given to them as a gift or waqf. It is not permissible to destroy them, as that would be a waste of wealth. However, if they cannot be utilized, then there is no objection to destroying them by burning or shredding, so that no trace of their letters remains.
