Is it permissible to sell school books that contain Quranic verses, knowing that the buyer will shred them?

There is no objection to selling books, even if they are religious. However, selling them for the purpose of shredding and recycling depends on the ruling concerning shredding and recycling. Shredding is permissible if it is done thoroughly, so that no trace of the letters remains. As for recycling, the Permanent Committee for Issuing Fatwas and the Council of the Senior Scholars have unanimously prohibited it, due to the disrespect and degradation it entails for the words of Allah. Therefore, it is advised not to sell books that contain Quranic verses to those who recycle them, unless the verses are removed from them first.
