Is it permissible for the reciter at a condolence gathering to recite only verses about paradise and not verses about hellfire, with the intention of bringing good tidings to the deceased and their family?

What people do during condolences—gathering, setting up marquees, and bringing reciters—is an innovated bid‘ah. The holding of banquets is also a bid‘ah of the pre-Islamic era. Furthermore, some reciters limiting themselves to verses of mercy without verses of punishment, with the intention of delivering good tidings, goes against the context and wisdom of the Qur’an. It was not from the guidance of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, to select verses in this manner. Deliberately conveying good tidings and applying verses to the state of the deceased may lead to a kind of presumption upon Allah or falsehood, for no one is to be vouched for before Allah.
