Is it permissible to put one man before another who is more knowledgeable than him, such as putting a child before an older and more knowledgeable man, in order to teach him or for him to get used to leading the prayer (Imamah) in supererogatory (nafilah) or obligatory (fardh) prayers?

The most deserving of leading the prayer (Imamah) is the one most knowledgeable of the Book of Allah (the best reciter). It is permissible, by agreement of the jurists, to present someone other than the best reciter who is an adult. If the more excellent person gives permission to the less excellent, the prayer is valid without being disliked (makruh). If he does not give permission, the prayer is valid but is disliked. As for the imamate of a discerning child (al-sabiyy al-mumayyiz), it is valid for supererogatory (nafl) prayers. There is a difference of opinion regarding its validity for obligatory (fard) prayers, and it is better not to present him to avoid disagreement, even though the preponderant opinion is the validity of his imamate due to the hadith of Amr ibn Salamah.
