Do good deeds like prayer, fasting, Hajj, and other righteous acts expiate evil deeds such as unlawful gazing and the like?

Good deeds expiate minor sins, such as unlawful looking, according to the Almighty's saying: "Indeed, good deeds do away with evil deeds," and the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "Follow up a bad deed with a good deed, it will wipe it out," and his saying: "The trials a man faces concerning his family, wealth, and neighbor are expiated by prayer, fasting, and charity." As for major sins, their expiation requires repentance, according to the majority of scholars.
