Do correspondences between a young man and a young woman with the intention of marriage displease God, and should he propose to marry her despite anticipating social rejection?

Islam does not recognize relationships between men and women outside of marriage and has warned against taking "akhdhan" (secret companions or lovers), as stated in the verses: "not committing unlawful sexual intercourse or taking secret lovers" and "chaste women, not indulging in unlawful sexual intercourse or taking secret lovers."

Messages via the internet fall under the category of "mukhadanah" (taking secret lovers). Therefore, this relationship between you and the girl is impermissible and must be ended immediately.

If the girl is pleasing in her religiosity, you may propose to her family. If they do not respond favorably, then you are not to blame.
