Is the imamate valid for a soldier who guards hotels and suspicious places?
The prayer of a fasiq (transgressor) is valid, even if someone else is more deserving of leading the prayer, just as the leadership of one who leads people who dislike him is valid. As for the hotel security guard, if his work is permissible, his leadership is valid if the conditions for imamate are met. If his work is not permissible, then he is disobedient and sinful, but his leadership is still valid, because the leadership of a disobedient person is valid. The Companions prayed behind Al-Hajjaj ibn Yusuf Al-Thaqafi and Al-Mukhtar ibn Abi Ubayd despite their transgression and tyranny. It is not a condition for imamate and the validity of prayer behind an imam that he be fully committed.
