Is it permissible to lie to protect a woman who is feared to be tempted [into sin], knowing that her ex-husband is threatening to expose her with pictures and recordings, and is it permissible to swear while lying?

Lying is forbidden and is considered a major sin. A believer does not habituate himself to it, except in cases of necessity and for a religiously recognized benefit that cannot be achieved otherwise. In such instances, it is permissible, even if it necessitates swearing an oath. Concealment is religiously required for one who has repented of a sin, and it is impermissible to accuse a woman of a sin without evidence, especially when it pertains to her honor. The former husband must fear Allah and not inform her family. If she owes a debt, he is obligated to pay it, and it is not permissible to deny it or procrastinate in its payment.
