Is water splattered from washing impure clothes or from istinja' considered impure? And is it obligatory to be cautious about it? And does using a Western toilet cause impure water to splash? And is using the flush (siphon) considered extravagance? And is it obligatory to use the hand for istinja' in a Western toilet, or is a bidet spray sufficient?

One must be wary of obsessive whispering (waswasah). Water spray that separates from the site of impurity after it has been purified is clean, as is water that is doubtful whether it has been touched by impurity. However, if one is certain that water separated from the impurity before purification, then it is impure and must be removed. Some scholars pardon minor impurities, and it is permissible for someone suffering from waswasah to act upon this opinion. The default is that the body and clothes are pure, and one does not deviate from this default unless there is certainty of the impurity's occurrence. Using a bidet (siphon) is permissible, and it is not obligatory to use the hand for istinja' (cleansing after defecation or urination); rather, what is obligatory is to achieve certainty or strong probability of thorough cleansing.
