What is the ruling on saluting the flag in schools?

Saluting the flag is an alien custom to the Muslim society, not permissible, and it is a reprehensible innovation (bid'ah), contrary to the perfection of (monotheism), and a means to (polytheism). It also involves imitating the disbelievers, and the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, forbade imitating them. Every innovation in religion is rejected.
