Is there any شرعًا (religiously) binding consequence upon me for repeatedly telling my wife – when I was angry with her – "We will live like siblings," and threatening her with not having marital relations, with the aim of pushing her to change her behavior, knowing that we are still living together and have children?

Husbands and wives must fulfill their obligations and treat each other with kindness. If a woman disobeys or falls short in her husband's rights, she is disobedient (naashiz). The husband may admonish her, forsake her in bed (with no time limit until she becomes upright), and then strike her with a non-bruising blow. If the husband is remiss in his wife's rights, he is not permitted to discipline her until he fulfills her rights.

Regarding the husband's statement, "We will live together like siblings": - If he intends by it abstention from intercourse as a form of discipline for her, without declaring her unlawful, then it is permissible. - However, if he intends by it to declare her unlawful to him, like his sister (zihar), then he must offer the expiation for zihar before touching her (freeing a slave, or if unable, fasting for two consecutive months, or if unable, feeding sixty needy persons).

If admonition, forsaking in bed, and striking are ineffective, two arbitrators from their families should be chosen to reconcile them, or to separate them if they deem it more appropriate.
