What is the purpose of the Day of Resurrection, the spreading of the scrolls, and the questioning about deeds, and why will the believer rejoice upon receiving his book in his right hand? Did he not already know his fate in the grave? And what is the state of the disobedient believer at the time of death and the questioning by the two angels?

A Muslim should believe and submit to what has been established in the texts, without delving into doubts or over-elaboration. The purpose of the Day of Judgment is to show the results of the worldly trial and to recompense people for their deeds, for the Hereafter is the true abode of life, while this world is an abode of trial and test. The torment and bliss of the grave are true, and they are an indication of the believer's bliss and the disbeliever's misery in the Hereafter. As for the disobedient, he may be tormented in his grave to be purified, or his torment may be alleviated by the intercession and prayers of believers. Angels of torment or mercy may receive him according to his end. The angels cause the righteous to die in a state of goodness and give them glad tidings of Paradise, whereas the angels cause the wrongdoers to die while striking their faces and their backs.
