Is the lack of interest in acts of worship, such as supererogatory prayers (nawafil), night vigil (qiyam al-layl), and reading the Quran, when relatives are present, and the abundance thereof when alone, considered among the characteristics of hypocrites or does it necessitate sin?

The deficiency in supererogatory acts when mixing with people is attributed to preoccupation with the unnecessary aspects of social interaction, which scholars have warned against because it hinders obedience. Unnecessary social interaction is a malady that brings evil, sows enmities, and causes loss of good. Therefore, a Muslim should only interact with people to the extent necessary.
