Is what is meant by the Hadith: "The superiority of the scholar over the worshiper is like my superiority over the least of you," a scholar of religious knowledge, or worldly knowledge, or both?

The Hadith refers to religious sciences. The superiority of a scholar of Sharia sciences who fulfills the obligations of servitude over a worshiper who devotes himself solely to worship, after acquiring the obligatory amount of knowledge, is understood from the Hadith. It also means that the excellence of a scholar is for one who benefits Allah's servants with his knowledge, through teaching, issuing fatwas, or guidance, over one who limits himself to worship. This does not mean neglecting worldly sciences, for whoever purifies his intention in them will have a great reward.
