What is the ruling on delaying the distribution of sacrificial meat until some of it spoils, and is it obligatory to make it up the following year?

The 'Udhiyah (definition) (sacrificial offering) is a confirmed Sunnah (definition) according to the majority of jurists. If the person performing the sacrifice slaughters their 'Udhiyah and its meat is spoiled, they are not required to repeat the sacrifice, as the act of shedding the blood has been achieved. It is recommended that they donate the value of one-third of the spoiled 'Udhiyah to the poor. If what they had distributed amounted to one-third of the 'Udhiyah, then the matter is clear. If it was less, they should donate the value of the remaining portion of the spoiled third. This recommendation is not an obligation, because the 'Udhiyah itself and the Sunnah of dividing it into three portions are originally voluntary acts (Sunnah). Just as buying a replacement for a vowed 'Udhiyah is not obligatory if its meat is spoiled, it is even less so for a non-vowed (Sunnah) 'Udhiyah. And what is obligatory to do concerning charity for a vowed 'Udhiyah becomes merely recommended for a general 'Udhiyah.
