Is sacrificial meat an act of charity or a gift? What is the ruling on one who gives away a small portion of it and keeps most of it for himself and his family? What is the stance of the four Madhhabs regarding its distribution?

One must give in charity from the Udhiyah (definition) what is considered meat. The Shafi'is and Hanbalis hold that it is obligatory to give charity from it, while the Hanafis and Malikis consider it recommended. If the one offering the sacrifice eats all of the Udhiyah and does not give anything from it in charity, he is obligated to compensate for what should have been given in charity.
