Reading the Quran is forbidden for a person in a state of major ritual impurity (junub) according to the four madhhabs, and this is the most preponderant opinion. However, whoever reads it out of forgetfulness incurs no sin, for Allah the Almighty says: "Our Lord, do not impose blame upon us if we have forgotten or erred," and Allah said in response to this supplication: "I have done so."
