Are those afflicted with obsessive-compulsive disorder punished for the intrusive thoughts they experience, which include blaspheming the Divine Self? And is this considered a departure from the faith or an act of disbelief (kufr)?

Obsessive whispering (waswasah) is akin to self-talk, and Allah has forgiven this Ummah for it, as long as it is not acted upon or spoken. The servant's dislike, fear, and aversion to these whispers are signs of sound belief and strong faith.

Therefore, it is advised to completely and utterly disregard these whispers and to seek Allah's help and supplicate Him to ward off Satan's schemes. Striving against these thoughts and hating them is a path to reward.

It must be known that suicide is a major sin. There is no objection to consulting pious and righteous psychiatrists if there are organic reasons behind these whispers.
