How can I deal with my mother who rejects any religious advice and considers it disobedience, while I am keen on guiding her and fear for her in the Hereafter?
One must be dutiful and kind to their parents. Among the greatest forms of dutifulness to a mother is enjoining her to good and forbidding her from evil, especially concerning prayer. One can seek help from some relatives or righteous people, or give her some tapes or books, or direct her to sermons and religious programs.
The advice must be given gently and with respect, for enjoining good and forbidding evil to parents is not like doing so to others. Ibn Muflih al-Hanbali said that Ahmad stated: "He enjoins his parents to good and forbids them from evil... if he sees his father doing something he dislikes, he informs him without harshness or offense, and he does not speak roughly to him. Otherwise, he leaves it, for a father is not like a stranger."
Sheikh Ibn Baz said: "Parents have a special status. One should not abandon their parents; rather, they should visit them, take care of them, and advise them, for Allah said: {Be grateful to Me and to your parents; to Me is the final return. But if they endeavor to make you associate with Me that of which you have no knowledge, do not obey them but accompany them in [this] world with kindness.} (Luqman 31:14-15). He should be gentle in advising them and guiding them to good, and he should seek help from whomever is available."
