Do gemstones and diamonds take the same ruling as gold and silver vessels?

The rulings concerning gold and silver do not apply to precious stones like diamonds. The Prophet (peace be upon him) and his Companions performed ablution from a stone basin and a glass cup, and he also had a wooden cup. The prohibition is specific to gold and silver, and anything else is permissible, because the reason for the prohibition of gold and silver is ostentation (khuyala') and breaking the hearts of the poor, which are not present in jewels and the like. The general rule for things is permissibility unless there is evidence to the contrary.
