Is it permissible for a suitor to meet his fiancée in the presence of a third party and without seclusion, in order to learn about her way of thinking? If it is not permissible, then what is the correct way to learn about her way of thinking and whether she is compatible with him?

It is permissible for the suitor to sit with his fiancée for permissible conversation when needed, provided there is modesty and decorum, and the presence of one of her mahrams or someone who prevents khalwa (private seclusion). However, this sitting is not the ideal way to ascertain compatibility, as it may involve a great deal of artificiality. It is more appropriate to inquire about the other party from trustworthy individuals, as Fatimah bint Qays (may Allah be pleased with her) did. Among the most important means for success in marriage is also istikharah (seeking guidance from Allah).
