If your endeavor to please your father is sincere, then Allah pardons unintentional slips, for Allah Almighty says: "Your Lord is most knowing of what is within yourselves. If you should be righteous, then indeed He is ever Forgiving to the often returning [to Him]." As for rectifying your past shortcomings, it is done by honoring your parents after their death through supplication for them, giving charity on their behalf, and seeking forgiveness for them. All of that alleviates your shortcomings, along with sincere repentance and remorse.
