What is meant by the saying of Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her): "Among what was revealed of the Qur’an was: 'Ten known sucklings make unlawful,' then it was abrogated by 'five known sucklings,' and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) passed away while these were among what was recited from the Qur’an"? And is it understood from this that the verse of prohibition by five sucklings was present in the Qur’an and then removed?

The aforementioned Hadith indicates that the Qur’an originally contained a recitation of "ten known sucklings for prohibition," which was then abrogated by "five known sucklings." The prohibition of ten sucklings was abrogated in both recitation and ruling. As for the prohibition of five sucklings, its recitation was abrogated, but its ruling remained. The abrogation of the the five sucklings verse was delayed until the Prophet (peace be upon him) passed away, and some people were still reciting it as part of the Qur’an. Then, there was a consensus that it should not be recited after they became aware of its abrogation. Abrogation is of three types: that whose ruling and recitation are both abrogated (like the ten sucklings), and that whose recitation is abrogated but its ruling remains (like the five sucklings).
