Was Abu Sufyan ibn Harb truly a disbeliever?

If the question is about Abu Sufyan's early life, then he was an unbeliever and led the army of polytheists in the Battle of Uhud. On that day, he said, "Ulu Hubal!" and "We have Al-Uzza, and you have no Al-Uzza!" So the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, commanded his companions to respond to him with, "Allah is Most High and Most Majestic! Allah is our Protector, and you have no protector!" However, if the question is whether he died as an unbeliever, the answer is no. He embraced Islam on the Day of the Conquest of Mecca, and his Islam was good. He had great stances in jihad and participated in the Islamic conquests.
