What is the ruling on trading and keeping animals used for ornamental or hobby purposes, such as ornamental birds, reptiles, and predators?

It is permissible to sell ornamental birds such as nightingales and parrots, especially since there is evidence for the permissibility of caging birds and playing with them, provided they are fed and watered.

While some scholars disliked caging them for breeding, the buying and selling of snakes and lizards is not permissible due to their lack of benefit; rather, they cause harm.

Similarly, it is not permissible to buy and sell predatory animals such as wolves, lions, and foxes, as this constitutes a waste of money and is prohibited by relevant texts.
