What is the ruling on trading in ornamental birds, cats, dogs, and birds of prey?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

There is no harm in selling cats and dogs if their sale has not been prohibited. As for ornamental birds, there is no harm in trading them, whether by selling or buying. As for predatory birds, the preponderant opinion is that it is not permissible to trade in them unless they are beneficial, such as a falcon for hunting. Ibn Qudamah said: "Every owned item from which benefit is permitted, its sale is permissible, except for what the Sharīʿah has exempted."
