Did the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) encourage sleeping naked?

There is no validity to a narration in which the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, calls for sleeping naked; rather, it is a fabrication attributed to him. The Sharia has encouraged covering one's 'awrah (private parts) in all circumstances, even in seclusion, except in cases of necessity. This is supported by the narration from Mu'awiyah ibn Haydah al-Qushayri, which states: "Allah is more deserving of shyness from than people." The majority of scholars have concluded that it is obligatory to cover one's 'awrah in seclusion, out of shyness before Allah and His angels. A weak narration has been reported warning against nudity, due to the disrespect it entails towards the guardian angels.
