The answer

Land purchased for building future housing for children is not subject to , nor are buildings prepared for their residence. As for the palm trees on the land, zakat is due on their fruits if they reach the (five awsuq after drying). One-tenth is due if watered without machinery, and one-half of one-tenth if watered with machinery. If zakat is paid without intention, it is not valid, and the obligatory amount from the fruit or its value must be given if the jurist deems it to be in the overriding interest.
