It is legislated for the traveler to shorten and combine prayers when he has passed all the houses of his village where he resides. His journey ceases when he returns to the place from which the distance for shortening and combining prayers began. Therefore, shortening and combining prayers are permissible until he reaches the beginning of the houses.
