What is filial piety, and is it limited to good treatment and inquiring about one's parents, or does it go beyond that?

Filial piety is to be good to them through gentle words and actions, avoiding harsh words that cause aversion. Piety is achieved by obeying them in what is good, being humble towards them, and not showing annoyance. Some forms of piety include: being good to them with money and other things, being respectful when addressing them, calling them by the names they love most, teaching them what they need concerning their religious and worldly affairs, accompanying them with kindness, obeying them in what they command, not walking ahead of them unless necessary, and seeking their permission when entering or leaving. Part of filial piety is also not to abuse them by cursing, insulting, or harming them, as this is a major sin. After their death, piety is shown by praying for them, seeking forgiveness for them, fulfilling their pledges, honoring their friends, and maintaining kinship ties that originate only through them.
