Are statues consisting of only a head, or a head and chest only, or a headless body permissible? Are children's toys designed in the form of humans and animals permissible? Are still and moving pictures and drawings of humans and animals in children's magazines and films permissible, even if they depict the full body? What is the ruling on pictures and sculptures of imaginary creatures?

The ruling on drawing/picturing varies depending on the type of images:

1. Pictures of non-living things (mountains, rivers, trees): There is no harm in them. 2. Pictures of living beings: Sculpted: Unanimously forbidden. Drawn: Forbidden according to the most authoritative opinion. Photographic (capturing a shadow): Scholars differed on this: Those who permit it: They see it as permissible under conditions, including that it does not involve something forbidden, indecent, or false, and that it is not a means to something legally forbidden. Those who forbid it: They argue that the prohibition is general and no exception is made except for necessity or severe need (such as an ID card), and it is preferable to adopt the more cautious opinion.

3. Drawing pictures of living beings (sculpted, drawn, engraved, figurative drawing): It is imperative to avoid this, whether real or imaginary, on a canvas, wall, garment, or magazine, as it is strictly forbidden. Some scholars permitted images that are incomplete in a way that would make life impossible for the living being (such as missing a head or half a body). The most authoritative opinion is that it is not permissible as long as the head is present, based on the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "The image is the head, so if the head is cut off, there is no image." Scholars have made an exception for girls' dolls, based on the established approval of the Prophet (peace be upon him) for Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) playing with them.

4. Drawing cartoon images for children's films: This may be permissible or forbidden depending on what is drawn and what it leads to.
