How can the verses that mention the creation of the heavens and the earth in six days be reconciled with the verses that, if their durations are combined, total eight days?

The exegetes mentioned that Allah created the earth in two days, then He spread it out, blessed it, placed firm mountains therein, and ordained therein its provisions in two other days, making the total duration of creation four continuous days.
