What is the ruling on a husband beating his wife if she lies to him about matters he considers fundamental?

Lying is forbidden by Islamic law and by nature due to the corrupting effects it entails, and it is not characteristic of a believer. However, scholars have made exceptions for certain situations where lying is permissible for a great benefit, such as: a man speaking to his wife, a woman speaking to her husband, reconciling people, and in war. If the wife's lie falls under these categories, she should not be rebuked. Otherwise, it is a sin, with due consideration for wisdom in changing it. It must be known that striking one's wife without a legitimate religious reason is oppression and abuse.
