Is a husband obligated to have sexual relations with his first wife, whom he has forsaken for over a year before marrying another, in order to achieve justice between the two wives?

A husband must satisfy his wife's needs and chastity to the best of his ability. He is not permitted to abandon her unless she is disobedient (nashiz). In such a case, abandonment should follow a progression: first, admonition; then, abstaining from sharing her bed; and finally, light, non-injurious physical correction.

If a man abandons his wife without a legitimate Sharia reason, she has the right to seek divorce due to harm.

A husband must treat his wife kindly and equitably. If she misbehaves or falls short, he should employ the legitimate means of reform. Divorce is a last resort, and it is not permissible to leave her in a state of suspension.

If a man takes another wife, he must be just among his wives regarding allocation of time, financial support, and accommodation. However, equality in sexual intercourse is not obligatory, though it is preferable if possible.

One must be careful not to oppress a wife or treat her badly. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, warned against oppressing women and enjoined good treatment of them.

All these rights for the wife are forfeited if she is disobedient (nashiz).
