Did the Messenger of Allah, may Allah's prayers and peace be upon him, regulate the writing of what the scribes of revelation wrote, and how [could he do so] when he was illiterate?

The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, did not regulate the writing of the scribes of revelation; rather, they wrote according to their usual custom. As for the orthography of the Mushaf, in the form known today, the Companions agreed upon it when Uthman ordered the writing and distribution of the Musahif. This was after Hudhayfah was alarmed by the people's disagreement over the recitation. So, Uthman sent for the codices from Hafsa, and they were copied. Uthman then commanded that what they differed upon be written in the dialect of Quraish. After that, he sent the copied Musahif to the various regions and ordered the burning of all other copies.
