Is sujud as-sahw (prostration of forgetfulness) obligatory for unintentional mispronunciation (laḥn) in the transitionary takbeers?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

If the melodic distortion (al-lahn) in the transitional takbirs alters the meaning, then it is as if it was omitted. If it occurs due to forgetfulness or ignorance, it is compensated for by the prostration of forgetfulness (sujud al-sahw) according to the Hanbalis, because the transitional takbirs are considered obligatory acts by them, the intentional omission of which invalidates the prayer. As for the majority of scholars, the prayer is not invalidated by its omission or by melodic distortion in it. If the distortion is merely a whispering (waswasah), one must disregard it.
