Does a fasting person break their fast if they intend to break it due to illness or travel, but do not actually break it?

If a traveler or a sick person firmly intends to break their fast in an obligatory fast, then they have broken it, because by doing so, they are considered as if they had not intended to fast at all. However, in a supererogatory fast, if one firmly intended to break it but then reverted to their intention before eating, that is sufficient for them.

As for one who hesitated in their intention, such as someone who made their breaking of the fast conditional on the availability of food or on feeling tired, scholars have differed regarding their ruling. The more preponderant opinion is that they have not broken their fast, because intention cannot be made conditional on a condition, and they did not firmly intend to break the fast.
